New in November 2026

How is a synagogue organized? Do all Jewish people attend synagogue regularly? What is the Torah? Do all Jews people observe the religious commandments? When is Shabbat celebrated? What makes food kosher?

This guided tour explores these and other fundamental questions about Judaism, drawing on historical features preserved in the former synagogue in Kriegshaber. It also offers insights into the diversity of Jewish life and religious practice.

The synagogue complex in the city center has been undergoing gradual renovation since 2022. As a result, the city center museum location will close for several years starting in November 2026. In the meantime, we look forward to welcoming you to the former synagogue in the Kriegshaber district of Augsburg, where we will continue to offer a diverse program of guided tours and workshops.

ABOUT THE FORMER KRIEGSHABER SYNAGOGUE

The oldest surviving synagogue in Bavarian Swabia served as the center of a significant rural Jewish community just outside Augsburg from the early 18th century through the 20th century. Since 2014, it has been a branch of the Jewish Museum of Augsburg and Swabia. The former synagogue in the Kriegshaber district of Augsburg is easily accessible by tram or bus from the city centre in 20 minutes.
