New in November 2026

The Jewish population in Augsburg-Kriegshaber was systematically marginalized after 1933 anddeprived of its rights and property. The guided tour through the former synagogue and along Ulmer Straße in Kriegshaber illustrates how the Nazis’ escalating persecution measures progressively worsened the living conditions of Jews in this Augsburg neighborhood until, with the onset of deportations, all hope of salvation faded. The tour explores the fates of Jews who were deported, introduces individuals who managed to escape, and examines how Augsburg commemorates those persecuted by the Nazi regime.

The synagogue complex in the city center has been undergoing gradual renovation since 2022. As a result, the museum’s city-center location will close for several years starting in November 2026. In the meantime, we look forward to welcoming you to the former synagogue in the Kriegshaber district of Augsburg, where we continue to offer a diverse program of guided tours and workshops.

ABOUT THE FORMER KRIEGSHABER SYNAGOGUE

The oldest surviving synagogue in Bavarian Swabia served as the center of a significant rural Jewish community just outside Augsburg from the early 18th century through the 20th century. Since 2014, it has been a branch of the Jewish Museum of Augsburg and Swabia. The former synagogue in the Kriegshaber district of Augsburg is easily accessible by tram or bus from the city centre in 20 minutes.
