Intervention booklet

Our society, they say, is held together by shared values: justice and the rule of law, equal rights, charity, community, family. Politicians invoke “our values” all the more frequently in times of social discord or crisis. Not all such appeals are intended to bring people together, though; some are meant specifically to exclude others from “our” value-based community.

New reflections on old values

In this intervention, we interrogate “our values” in the past and the present – from a Jewish perspective. Values have changed over time and neither were nor are always uncontested. Knowing this challenges us to ask ourselves where we stand. What values do we truly share, and how much are they worth to us? In this way, this intervention into our permanent exhibition explores possibilities for a new and different approach to conveying and engaging with (Jewish) tradition.
