Seasonal display about the festival of lights
This year, the Jewish Museum Augsburg Swabia once again teamed up with a local elementary school to remake our Hannukah exhibition, a seasonal display within the permanent exhibition at our central location. This year, it was the students of the Elias-Holl-Grundschule in Augsburg who acted as assistant curators.
Hanukkah celebrates the Maccabean Revolt of the second century BCE, when the Maccabees recaptured Jerusalem. More specifically, it commemorates the miracle of the oil said to have occurred during the rededication of the liberated Temple. In memory of these events, Jews light a new candle on the Hanukkah menorah on eight subsequent nights.
