Rich program and free admission at both museum locations!
This year, the motto of the European Day of Jewish Culture is “Memory”. Memory and historical awareness are a core principle of Judaism.
In Augsburg, the synagogue on Halderstraße will be renovated in the coming years. For this reason, we would like to focus on the memories of this unique building complex from 1917 and the former synagogue in the Kriegshaber neighbourhood.
A reading will focus on the memories of the Great Synagogue that emigrants from the pre-war community recorded in letters after their forced emigration. The personal stories reflect the painful experiences associated with the loss of their homeland. A panel discussion with community members looks back on the new beginning after 1945 and the Jewish life that has developed in the building complex since then. You can get active yourself at a dance workshop with the dance group “Jad be Jad”. Finally, the Duo Nefesch invites you to a klezmer concert in the festival hall of the synagogue. There will be several guided tours for young and old at both museum locations.
Take part!
We also want to collect your memories:
Bring us photos, documents or anecdotes, i.e. your personal memories of the synagogue in Halderstraße or the Former Kriegshaber Synagogue! The memories will be displayed on the European Day of Jewish Culture.
