Assaf’s Psalm

New music for the synagogue, made in Germany

Assaf Levitin follows in the Jewish tradition of cantors who compose their own melodies for their congregations. The concert in Augsburg is an opportunity for him to tell his family history in words and sound: Assaf Levitin is the great-grandson of Josef Zebrak, the last cantor of the synagogue in Augsburg-Kriegshaber.

In this program, Assaf Levitin presents his new music for synagogue services, a tradition that was interrupted in Germany after World War II. He has set various liturgical texts to music, such as psalms and the prayer “Ma Towu.” With Naaman Wagner on piano, with whom he has recorded numerous CDs, and Omri Abramov, who tours with singer Noa, among others, the music takes on a new dimension.
