DenkRaum: Freedom of speech
Event on 29.10.2026 | 19.00 Uhr
DenkRaum with Ronen Steinke
Never before have there been so many investigations based solely on words—whether the issues at hand are migration, climate policy, Ukraine, or the Middle East conflict. Today, the state defines numerous political statements as criminal offenses that, just ten years ago, clearly fell under the protection of freedom of speech.
In his latest book, Ronen Steinke highlights where the boundaries of freedom of expression now lie, including in the digital realm. The award-winning journalist (Süddeutsche Zeitung) and lawyer argues that, especially in the current situation, the country should dare to allow more freedom of expression rather than believing that people can be persuaded by silencing them.
Moderation: Ann-Kathrin Mittelstraß, Bayerischer Rundfunk
DenkRaum is a collaborative initiative of the City’s Peace Office, the Augsburg Adult Education Center, the Evangelical Forum Annahof, the Jewish Museum of Augsburg and Swabia, and the Augsburg State Theater. It offers an opportunity to discuss current sociopolitical issues in a participatory series of talks. Following a keynote presentation, audience members can engage in conversation with one another and ask questions of the speakers.
